5 Steps To Achieve Financial Independence – Step 4, Become An Expert In Something You Love Doing

This is Step 4 in the series,  5 Steps To Achieve Financial Independence.
If you’ve ever felt like you were stuck in the “rat race” – it is primarily because you don’t like what you’re doing right now.  Why work in a profession you don’t like?  Well, the reason you may have hesitated in taking action is that you felt you had to make an “all or nothing change.”  That’s just not the case.
Remember, we’re talking about a 5 year plan for you to achieve financial independence. If you become an expert in something you’re passionate about, it’s highly likely you will be able to find multiple ways to make money with that passion.  Things will open up as you gain expertise.

My Story

I have a passion for personal finance, retirement planning and markets. For me the perfect combination was to become a pension consultant as there are many avenues I can branch into should I ever choose.  But it didn’t happen overnight. Rocket science; hardly, but a clear and sustained focus have allowed me to become an expert in my field.  I don’t plan to leave this industry and I already have other supplemental avenues opening up because I am considered an expert in my field.

What About You?

How do you become an expert?  Well, it doesn’t need to take 10 years, or even 5 years. I am sure you already posess knowledge in a particular area.  Here are 3 ways to help you figure out what you’re most passionate about, how to become an expert in any field and what niche to focus in by determining where the demand will be.

The Tools on Becoming An Expert In Something You Love

The purpose of 48 Days – “Our mission at 48 Days is to foster the process of imagining, dreaming and introspection, to help people find their calling and true path, and to translate that into meaningful, purposeful and profitable daily work.”  Pretty Cool if you ask me!

Once you’ve clarified what you are passionate about, you need to become an expert.  The following article above from Wisebread’s Philip Brewer is a great read on how to become an expert.

3.  Find Your Knowledge Goldmine
Now it’s time to find out how you can apply what you’ve learned and cash in on marketable opportunities.  I need to warn you though.  It is vital that you select a niche where customers already exist. While it is important to brand yourself as an expert, it’s even more imporant for you to take your expertise and determine what specific problems and challenges you can help others solve.
The following is a short exercise I leaerned from Eben Pagan. It revolves around asking yourself 3 simple questions:
Question 1 – What consistent problems and challanges are lots of people having that you know how to solve?
Quesiton 2 – How have you noticed others help people solve these problems?
Question 3 – What is the best way for someone who is experiencing these problems or challenges to solve them fast?

Focusing on this area of your life and achieving this step, will allow you to do the work you love.  This is an important step in the quest for achieving financial independence.
