Developing a millionaire mind is one of the most important starting points to creating financial independence. This is true whether you are talking about getting a new job, getting out of debt or becoming financially independent, “a millionaire.”

You should get your mind set right before beginning any of these endeavors. The right mindset, more than anything else, can make a millionaire – or, in the absence of it, fail to make one and keep you in a life of poverty. What is your mindset when you think about money? Do you have an adversarial relationship with money? Does money control you? Or, do you use money as a tool to improve the quality of your and other’s lives?

Here are 5 tips that I think you will find helpful in developing the right mindset when it comes to money. These are the common traits found in most wealthy people. Try them out and please add a few of your own.

Tip 1 – they create their life
Wealthy people believe “I create my life, and why poor people believe “Life happens to me.” “Or, everything happens for a reason”

Tip 2 – they are comfortable being wealthy
Wealthy people are comfortable with being wealthy. Period. It isn’t a sense of entitlement. They believe this is their destiny and they are committed to reaching it, regardless of the economy. Can you tell me one reason why you couldn’t be comfortable being wealthy?

Tip 3 – they focus on their net worth
Wealthy people focus on their net worth. Poor people focus on their working income. This is what most people call the rat race.

Tip 4 – they learn a set of specific skills
This is what most people miss and it’s absolutely critical that you understand this and not think that getting rich is about finding some trick or lottery ticket. When your mindset is right, you can start where you are. Rich people aren’t smarter than poor people. But they learn a set of specific skills that poor people don’t have, by choice. Then, they apply this into a proven business model. 99% of the time this is not found in your typical get-rich quick scheme or $1000 internet marketing course. Yes, selling and marketing is actually a skill you can develop, but need to have. This requires work and why many people miss it. But don’t over look this.

Tip 5 – they create passive income
Poor people work hard for their money. Rich people have their money work hard for them creating passive income which is greater than their current expenses. This is when you have the ability to do what you choose and on your own time-line.
