Today’s post is going to be a little brief.  But don’t mistake that for the effect this little game changer can have on your ability to get out of debt and free up extra time.

Wednesday nights at 9PM.  If you were to drop in on me on almost any Wednesday at 9PM, you would find me spending at least 15-30 minutes reviewing my personal finances, bills, financial statements, etc.  I used to only do this every 2nd or third week however, I found that I like to keep track of my finances and I don’t think once per month is enough.  Also, banks and other companies make mistakes.

What I want you to do is get a spreadsheet out and make a list of all your creditors.  I like to us Google Docs because I can access them anywhere in the world.   Make a few columns.  Write down the name of the bill/creditor, their website and contact info, your logins, when the bill is due, the amount of the bill and then the last date you made a payment.  Lastly, make one column for notes.  In that column, write down any notes from your previous conversations where you may have agreed to new terms to pay off the particular bill.  This way you can reference everything in one view.

Then, simply start at the top and work your way down the list one bill at a time. Pay what you agreed to pay and pay it on time.  Most weeks you won’t be making a payment, but you will be regaining a sense of control over your finances and the discipline to keep the momentum rolling.  You will also improve your credit score significantly over time.

Like I said, my day is Wednesday at 9PM.  What’s yours?   The really cool thing and why I want you to look at this every week is that you will begin to see your own progress take shape and you will feel really good about it!!!

Life is not made up of the have and have not’s – but instead the wills and will not’s.  Which one are you?
