Call Your Creditors and Tell Them You ARE Planning To Get Out of Debt

Yea, that’s right, I want you to call your creditors and tell them that you are planning on getting out of debt.  They won’t really care so much about your new found goal of having a debt-free lifestyle but you really do need to contact them.

Most people make the mistake of stopping talking to their creditors.  Believe me, they are the last people I’d want to speak with either.  Sometimes I wonder where these people come from. (No offense if you happen to work for a credit card company.)  But some of these people have the tenacity of a common cold that just won’t go away.

But let’s own up to this: You did make the decision to use the credit card and spend the money you didn’t have, right?  THAT isn’t the fault of the credit card company.  And, just like facing that fact you also need to face these people and attempt to establish a friendly dialog with them.  Avoiding their phone calls and letters is not in your best interest and only adds to the problem.

So yes, you need to get on the phone and take the initiative and call them.  You need to let them know your ability to pay them.  Talk to them about what you can afford and try to negotiate the best deal you can to repay them.  Often times, you will be surprised what they will offer you.

This will accomplish 2 very important things for you:

1) You will be in control of your finances for perhaps the first time in your life.

2) You will not have to listen to those annoying messages your creditors leave when they call you 3-5 times a day.

Everything in life gets better when you get better, and nothing in life gets better until you get better.
