I thought I would change things up today and make a list of ways you can cut your expenses. Certainly when you cut your expenses you will have more money to pay off your debt or save money and/or spend on things you like. So, here is part 1 of the list of 20 Ways To Cut Your Expenses:
1 – Pay Your Bills Online – Save on postage! I wrote an article a while back about Automating Your Finances
2 – Shop Smartly – Shop at discount stores like Sam’s or Costco, cut coupons. I usually go to Costco once per month to get my basic necessities. Check out how this woman uses her coupons to shop smartly. How To Cut Food Costs I don’t use coupons too often but the woman in that video takes shopping to a spiritual level
and how can we argue with these kind of results?
3- Cook In Bulk – Cook in bulk and freeze your food for the next couple weeks.
4-Hit the Matinees – By going to the matinee movies versus prime time can save money instantly.
5- Watch the Expense Ratios of your Mutual Funds – If the funds in your account aren’t outperforming their peers, consider a lower cost alternative like an index fund.
6 – Go to your public library to check out movies and books.
7 – Raise the deductible on your home owners and car insurance. Many times this will significantly reduce your monthly insurance premiums.
8- Check Your Credit History to make sure the information is accurate. Here Free Credit Report is a link to an article I wrote about how to get your free credit report. Look at the bottom of the article for the link to Free Credit Report.com.
9 – Pay for thing with cash – When you use cash versus credit, it’s more painful and it will make you think twice before purchasing stuff.
10 – Don’t renew subscriptions to publications you don’t have time to read anymore.

These are wonderful ways in cutting one expense but most of all the individual as to be discipline in doing this. There are times we started out on doing what we know is important and then we lapse back in our old attitude.
I’ve done several of these things and they’ve been a big help. Raising the deductible on my car insurance saved us about $300 a year, plus paying our bills online has been a great way to save money. I no longer have to buy stamps, but I don’t have to travel to the post office and I never have a late payment. For most of my credit cards be late is at least a $25 fee. Now I set up the payment as soon as the bill comes.
Hi Emma,
It sounds like you have taken some real steps to save money. The “key” is to realize that all the small steps add up. And, that by simply setting things up online you can add time back to your life. Thanks for your comment!
