Is It Okay to Keep Buying Stuff while I am Getting Out of Debt

Personally, I would hold off on buying more stuff.  Getting out of debt requires a certain mind set for a period of time.  For example, if you want to replace the kitchen countertops, I think you should wait until you are debt-free.  You don’t need the countertops and they will be there when you become debt-free in a few years.  There are very few things I would consider more important than getting out of debt as soon as possible.

The other thing you don’t want to do is borrow money to pay off debt.  This will only put you further into debt.  I know it sounds crazy; borrowing money to pay off debt, but people do it all the time.

And, I have to be honest with you here.  If you are reading what I wrote and you are wondering how you are ever going to do with out the new countertops or that vacation to Mykonos, you need to do a gut check right now.  Becoming debt free will require you to make some huge changes, including some painful sacrifices along the way.  These may include selling a car, downsizing your home and things like that.

But I will wager and almost personally guarantee you, being debt free is liberating and worth it.
